Jefferson Parish, La. – On January 29, 2024, shortly after 8:45 pm, tragedy struck on U.S. 90B lower level near Avenue D in Louisiana when a pedestrian was hit by a SUV. The pedestrian was identified as Richard Breaux, 64, of Gretna. Louisiana State Police Troop B is investigating.

The Incident

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on U.S. 90B lower level, approaching Avenue D, when, for reasons still under investigation, Mr. Breaux ran across several lanes of travel and into the path of the Jeep.

Cause Under Investigation

Details surrounding the cause of the crash remain under investigation. However, authorities report that Mr. Breaux was wearing dark colored clothing.

Tragic Aftermath

Sadly, Mr. Breaux suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

LSP urged that pedestrians and motorists to remain vigilant while on roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should avoid walking on the roadway. Pedestrians must assume that approaching motorists cannot see them. Pedestrians should cross roadways in well-lit, designated areas and should always walk facing traffic.
