Natchitoches, La. – On January 29, 2024, just before 11:30 a.m., tragedy unfolded on U.S. Highway 84 at the intersection of Morningstar Road. The incident claimed the life of 37-year-old Johnny Dubois III.

Cause Under Investigation

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop E are investigating the crash. The initial investigation found that Dubois, driving a 1995 Nissan northbound on Morningstar Road, failed to properly clear the intersection before proceeding onto U.S. Highway 84. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation, with troopers diligently working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Aftermath

Dubois’ Nissan allegedly collided with a westbound 1999 Peterbuilt. Dubois, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle, also restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the Louisiana State Police advised that distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state and urged all motorists to stay alert while driving. A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.
