A head-on collision occurred on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, on I-20 west of US 371 in Louisiana. The accident involved four vehicles and tragically resulted in the death of 20-year-old Savanah Shelton.
Cause Under Investigation
The driver apparently responsible for the crash, 20-year-old Marcus Baggett, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-20. As a result of Baggett driving against traffic, Baggett and Shelton collided head-on. While it is unclear why Baggett was traveling in the wrong direction and still under investigation, authorities suspect impairment due to alcohol or drugs. Toxicology results are pending.
Aftermath
Shelton, the driver of the vehicle struck head-on, died at the scene. Her passenger sustained serious injuries and required hospitalization. Five other individuals from the other vehicles involved suffered minor injuries.
Baggett was arrested and faces charges of vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular negligent injury, and six counts of vehicular negligent injury.
