Holly Ridge, La. A head-on collision on January 25th, 2024, has left one person dead and two injured on US-80 west of LA-183 in Richland Parish. The Louisiana State Police Troop F is investigating the crash, which occurred shortly after 6:00 PM.

The Incident

The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by 76-year-old Walter Carroll of Rayville was traveling westbound on US-80 behind a 2004 Nissan Frontier. At the same time, a 1997 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on the same highway. Ultimately, the Altima and the Ram collided head-on.

Cause Under Investigation

Details surrounding the cause of the crash remain under investigation. However, authorities report that the Altima attempted to pass the Frontier in a designated passing zone before striking the oncoming Dodge Ram.

Tragic Aftermath

Sadly, Mr. Carroll, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the Frontier and the Dodge Ram, both properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

A Stark Reminder

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving practices. Passing in designated zones should only be done with extreme caution and awareness of oncoming traffic. Additionally, wearing a seatbelt significantly increases the chances of surviving a collision.

Our Thoughts are with the Families

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Carroll during this difficult time. We also extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured drivers.

Safety First

The Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to prioritize safety on the road. Obey the speed limit, avoid distractions, and always wear your seatbelt. By making responsible choices, we can all help prevent similar tragedies.
