Port Barre, La. – On Friday, January 26th, 2024, shortly after 8:30 pm, tragedy struck the Port Barre community. 54-year-old Daniel Craig Leger lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on Louisiana Highway 103 near Alex Stoute Road.

The Incident

According to the Louisiana State Police Troop I, Mr. Leger was traveling north on the highway near the fog line when an unknown vehicle struck him from behind. The unknown vehicle continued northbound on LA 103 as it fled from the scene.

Cause Under Investigation

While Mr. Leger was reportedly wearing dark-colored clothing, his bicycle sported a red flashing LED light, raising questions about the driver. Authorities are actively investigating the type of vehicle involved and urgently seeking any information from witnesses or anyone with relevant knowledge.

Tragic Aftermath

The impact ejected Mr. Leger from his bicycle causing him to sustain serious injuries. Leger was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries ultimately proved fatal.
