The Incident
A fatal accident occurred on March 11, 2024, at approximately 7:00 am, at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 3226 and BC Doyle Road in Vernon Parish. The two-vehicle crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Michael Townley of Deridder.
Details
- Mr. Townley was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram attempting to turn at the intersection when his vehicle collided with a westbound commercial log truck.
- The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with a focus on why Mr. Townley failed to yield to the oncoming log truck.
Fatality and Injuries
- Mr. Townley, although wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The driver of the log truck, who was also restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigation
Louisiana State Police Troop E is investigating the accident. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers as part of standard procedures. Distracted and inattentive driving are being considered as possible contributing factors. The importance of driver awareness is emphasized.
